[Penciled in on top of Scan 1 [1863] ]
Sunday June 28th
At a point about 5 miles north
of Frederick Md. We left the
mountain at day light nd now
find ourselves about 21 miles from
Gettysburg and apparently moving
toward that place.. We found
the division here and our wagons
have just joined us. The mail
also came and I just now had
the exquisite pleasure of looking
at the shadow of Rene McGowan.
It came enclosed in this
envelope. and [illegible in original] with it only
his autograph O Yours Truly
Irenus McGowan
I do not think we shall
remain here long nor longer
than tomorrow morning..
We have unpacked nothing
and lay ready to throw our
saddles on our horses and
away at a moments notice
Fairfax C. H. is reported
to have been occupied by the
rebs a day or two ago. I hope
this is true. I never want
to see it again while this
war lasts. E R H
