Head-Quarters, District of Memphis,
Memphis, Tenn., April 11th 1863.
My Own Promised Emma.
letter came to hand this morning
and Oh what a pleasure does it
affored me to answer it. I have
been uneasy all day for fear I
should be so busy that I could
not answer to day; but darling
I find myself at last. toward the
close of a beautiful day writing to
her whom above all others. I love. Oh!
Emma. do not doubt me. believe
me true to you. Sometimes I may
have appeared neglectful _ to you _ but
Dear Dear Emma. I have answered
every letter ever received from you
and written a good many besides that
I never have received answers for
yet notwithstanding that. I have
never complained _ for undoubtedly

some of our letters are lost.
My Emma. how happy your
Mark will be when he can clasp his
Emma to his heart, and Know
nothing short of death can part us.
Dear One. I am uneasy
about you. I fear you are worse
than you acKnowledge to me. Oh
Emma tell me all for I am anxious
very anxious on your account.
Be very Cautious how you expose
yourself for you are naturally del=
Emma I have written two letters
to Hattie WilKinson. please inform
me when you write _ if you would
prefer. that I would not write
to them. It is done only for
pass time and amusement
nothing do I write to any one
I would not willingly submitt to
your observation.
I am still at Genl

has been ofered the Post Comm=
=issary for Helena ArkKansas. he
is very anxious that I should ac=
=Company him. He is Continually
offering new inducements. and
I may Conclude to go with him.
However you must address me
at these Head Quarters. until
further orders for I am un=
Well Emma in answer
to your interogation regarding
my age _ I would say I am
a YounK man _ boasting of the
Wisdom (All but that) of twenty
two Winters _ and as many Sum-
=mers _ lacking One.
This writing
looks like “[Castle?] Thunder”, and
I would not send it if I had
time to write another _ My Ex=
Cuse is that I had to hurry
in order to get it off in this
mail. Excuse it Dear I will

hear that your mothers health
is good. Be a good Girl
