Corinth Miss.
Jan 24th 1863
Dearest Darling Emma.
Your last
very Kind &. loving letter came
to hand at Memphis_ a day or two
Since Just as I received orders to
come to this place.
My Own Promised
Bride. I am sent here by Genl .
Hamilton; on an Important Mission
I was the bearer of dispatches from
Hamilton to Genl’s. Dide; Smith;
[Sauman?] , and Sulivan, I return to Memphis in
the morning.
Loved
Oh! Dearly ^ Emma,
How happy would
Mark be could he but see His Own Dear Emma,
Yet, I Know you love me dearly. and I am
Satisfied. Yes contented.
You are so Noble. So affection-
-ate. Sometimes I feele unworthy, of you _ But I
will try, and make you happy. Oh! we shall be
so happy wont we dearest.
In regard to
your going with Jim Gowdy I can see nothing

wrong in it. I am perfectly
willing you should Keep
Company with _ any friend
You Know what I mean
by saying Keep Company.
If you love any one else
though. I shall be Jealous.
But away with jesting.
I can trust you any where. Always use your
own discretion and Mark will be satisfied.
You enquire about that letter
I wrote to Hattie Wilkinson
Well when we took the
Rebel Fortifications of Price
on the Talahatchie _ River _ I
saw one of our boys reading a
letter which he picked up
inside _ the [worKs?] _ This letter
purported to come from
one Girl to another the
letter was signed by Miss Hattie
Wilkinson _ I enclosed the
letter to Hattie writing about
twelve or fifteen lines _ She has
answered the letter &. stated as
I supposed That it was written
by some namesake of hers

Dear One. I must close for
the Col is making up the Mail
and I want this to go, today
When I get back to Memphis
I will write to you again
Take good care of your
health _ how does your Mother
prosper? Love to her. Respects
to. John’s family.
I am the
Guest of the 7th Illinois Regiment
where I have some friends It
rains &. is very disagreeable.
Write to me soon.
