On Board Steamer
David Tatum
St Louis Mo.
June 9th 1865 Eve

Dear Nell.
Although it has
been scarce ten hours since
I dropped my lengthy effusion
into the P.O. at this place
I have decided to write a
short one this evening as a
sequel and tell you our pros
pects for the future.
Our worst fears, and my
childhoods longings are about
to be realized. We are off to
Leveanworth either to night
or tomorrow morning. The
brigade left here 4 days ago

We have changed coats.
I have worked like the deuse
at the ration dicker all the
after noon and bought me a
new suit of clothes. and are
now ready. β€œTo the West! To
the West is now the cry.
Write soon. and often
Ed.
