Camp Russell Va
February 27th /65

Dear Nell.
This is the last
time I shall write you from
this camp. We are preparing to
move at 6 A.M. tomorrow.
“Destination Unknown” Go with
five days rations. thirty pounds
forage and 75 rounds ammu
nition per man. Conjectures
rumors and reports of every
kind are in vogue but which
comes nearest to the truth is
unknown, to us at least
I conjecture that we do
not intend to make a very
important move in the way
of fighting at first else more
ammunition would be taken

The roads are awful
mud knee deep. Streams are
perfect floods and where
we can be going it is unneces
sary to conjecture in fact
I would’nt attempt to.
You will probably hear
from me again ere the first
of May. and the papers will
tell you what has become of us.
Those “goodies” you sent will
I doubt not, reach me “some
time” and I shall eat them
with all the more gusto after
a big march..
I am usually well and
feel in good spirits. This
has been a very short pleasant
winter to me. which I conclude
that visit home had some
thing to do with

I got a letter from my
cousin last. night and must
write a short note in reply.
to night. I am not inclined
to retract anything I said con
cerning said cousin in my
first letter but would add
more if you werent so much
inclined to doubt my word.
But I must close.
Give my compliments to
all inquiring friends and
accept for yourself and all
the family the undying love
of your
Brother
